The Black Pearls is a group on campus, the students are not referred to as “black pearls.” The group is open to students and alumnae of any race or ethnicity who are interested in promoting diversity at SBC.
The Black Pearls is a group on campus devoted to promoting diversity. They assist with connecting students with alumnae who have a common interest in increasing campus diversity. Despite whatever conclusions you may have jumped to, From Rush to Rehab, the Black Pearls is not restricted to African American students or minorities.
Since I’m a member of the group, I did you the favor of finding their description:
“The Black Pearls Mission: Promote a sisterhood by bringing alumnae and students from all classes together to share their experiences, network, make connections, and continue to promote diversity of all kinds at Sweet Briar College. This is not a group for African American women only or minority students only, but it is open to any and all Sweet Briar students and alumnae who wish to encourage diversity at Sweet Briar College.”
Looks like someone needs to take their own advice: hate doesn’t look good on anyone. And trashing my wonderful school with inaccurate statements, particularly when you know nothing about the situation, will get you absolutely nowhere. I have yet to come in contact with a student who is not deeply offended by the acts of whomever is responsible for such deplorable acts, regardless of race or ethnicity. How about next time you try and understand the situation before ignorantly commenting on it and passing judgement against an entire campus of strong, open-minded women?
