Sorry, I didn’t think I needed to bring a copy of the police report to TSM in order to receive credibility. That being said, I only reported my second rape in college to police. My first rape was when I was 15 by an older guy friend from camp. I never reported it to police because I was too ashamed. Does that mean it didn’t happen? Does that mean sober, 15 year old me asked for it? Absolutely not. In addition, the majority of sexual assaults are not covered by media. It is estimated one in four women are sexually assaulted, but 80 percent of these go unreported. Of the remaining approximately 20 percent, I would imagine we would hear a lot more about it in the media if every case was covered.
That being said, I don’t think you understood the point of my comment anyways, it was just saying that the men in masks are potentially doing more harm than good.

Honestly, as a sexual assault survivor, one often feels vulnerable after his or her attack. That being said, their approach of threatening people in very public settings is a strategy that could trigger other emotions in survivors in those classrooms. These men in masks are taking on an issue that needs to be dealt with, yes. However, the manner they are going about doing it is not only disrespectful to the fraternity, but also to the people they are trying to protect.

I’m looking for a fall jacket. I’m debating about getting a Barbour jacket, any thoughts?

I interned at Nordstrom this past summer and saw this coat come in. The material looks cheap and it definitely does not look worth the $369 you would pay for it. Hope this helps!

My mom grew up in a very privileged family, but her mom made her get a part time job as soon as she was 16 to learn about money. This was passed on to me and my sister because “no one is above working.” My mom taught me so many other wonderful things, but these are some of my favorites:
    1. You are a bar of gold. You wouldn’t give a bar of gold away to just anyone, don’t give yourself away to just anyone either.
    2. It’s easier to lose a dollar than earn a dollar.
    3. Make sure you know how to support yourself in any situation. You should be able to rely on yourself for everything.
    4. Love is the most important gift of all. If you don’t have love, you have nothing. Give it as much as you receive it.

Running shoes??? Can’t decide on the brand… New Balance 993, other New Balance, Nike, or Asics? I’m from South Carolina and go to school here so no advice other than srat southerners please!

You can really hurt your legs and feet if you wear the wrong shoes, especially to run. I have really high arches and overpronate so I wear the Brooks Adrenaline, they’re not the prettiest but they’re what works. Before those (I’m on my first pair) I just picked what I thought was cute and I got shin splints because I thought I had to have Nikes and didn’t pick a pair that properly supported my feet and ankles. If you go to Fleet Feet or Omega sports they should be able to help you, but I wouldn’t recommend going somewhere like Dick’s unless you already know what you need. Splints don’t sound like a big deal but they take 3-6 weeks to heal… or 6 months if you’re like me and try to run though them…do NOT do that by the way unless you want to put on major weight from not running like I did. Okay that’s my rant about running shoes… good luck, happy running and replace them every 300-500 miles :)

Snaps to Srat for a Lifetime! Although I’m not a southern girl, I am a big runner and everything Srat said was perfect! My mom (another sratter) runs marathons for the fun of it and she ALWAYS made us going to our local running store to try on shoes and get properly fitted. The wrong shoes can leave you not only with shin splints, but sprained ankles, stress fractures, tendonitis, and more! So my advice is to go to a Fleet Feet or another running store and have your feet looked at so you can find the perfect shoe – even if it isn’t the prettiest shoe! Ugly shoes for running with good support = pretty shoes to wear out to class and at night!

The Girls from Ames by Jeffrey Zaslow. It’s about women and their forty-year friendship. If that’s not sisterhood, I don’t know what is. (And it’s a true story!)

I read that last summer and I ADORED it!!! I even recommended it to my mom for her book club and they all loved it too!

Also, as an English education major, I’m obsessed with this topic. I agree with the love of F. Scott Fitzgerald (he’s absolutely incredible with words) and I thought I would share something I do every summer (basically since I was a freshman in high school). I look up classic women’s literature lists on the Internet and choose one of those books to be one of my summer reads (not necessarily a beach read – more like a while I’m bored waiting for someone read because they tend to be a bit heavier.) Last summer, I read “Mrs. Dalloway” by Virginia Woolf, the year before was “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen, the year before that was “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Bronte, etc. I think it’s a nice way to see how literature was changed, but then again, I’m an English major so I like that stuff. 😀

Can’t wait to see what others read! Keep sratting ladies!

I’m shocked by how few girls figure skated!! Its the only sratty sport the boys seem to enjoy watching ;)

Agreed! I figure skated for 12 years and I’m sooo shocked there’s only a few of us here. I miss the ice – I quit after my senior year because my college didn’t have any rinks nearby 🙁 – but to stay in shape now I run and do yoga!
I still can impress the boys by saying I was a figure skater though… they get really excited to hear that!

dgsoiree, that is the most precious idea! I might have to pass this along to my sisters!

I recently stumbled across Milly of New York. I think the dresses are beautiful. Thoughts? http://www.millyny.com/

I also looked up the Chan Luu bracelets… love them! They’re a bit on the pricey side to layer multiples (I get nervous when I’m wearing thousands of dollars of jewelry for no special occasional), but I’m definitely going to pick out one or two! Thanks for the find!

I love Milly! I’m interning at Nordstrom for the summer and I had to return the cutest dress to the department that sells it.

As for the Chan Luu bracelets, I agree they are quite cute, but I feel like they would overwhelm my very small wrists.
