It’s a lot easier to focus on school when you’re not worried about paying for your education, living expenses and spending time at work instead of studying. You’ll actually end up paying less in tuition than those who are taking out loans, which all have substantial interest rates. The better move in this situation would be to quietly acknowledge your privilege and just appreciate what you have. You’re not responsible for the fact that other people perceive you as being ungrateful or expect you to apologize for what you have, yet you wrote this article basically to complain that others view you this way. There are way more debasing perception issues at play in all of our lives than the way people view you for your parent’s financial support in college. The fact that you have made an issue of it just shows how far removed you are from the actual issues faced by the majority of college students.

  • Stay Sratty 10 years ago on A Graphic Account Of Life With An Eating Disorder Like You've Never Heard

Statistically speaking, someone in every one of our chapters is struggling with an eating disorder. Please please please watch how you treat your sisters and other women in general. When my bulimia was at its worst, I would faint nearly every day. Sophomore year, I wasn’t allowed to recruit for my chapter because “it would be so embarrassing for us if [I] fainted during a round”. I remember being judged by my advisors during outfit checks for how my shorts fit and literally wanting to die of shame. I remember my sisters joking about wanting an eating disorder so that they could lose weight. It’s time that we change the dialogue about body image and live by our values. Even though I only have ever experienced one organization’s ritual, I can guarantee that your organization’s values say nothing about the size of our members -only their actions and character. No one deserves the pain and struggle of an eating disorder -especially not our sisters. Thank you to all the other brave women who shared your stories.

  • Stay Sratty 10 years ago on 10 Reasons Why Joining A Local Sorority Is Better

I think the women of local sororities should think about how their behavior influences the general publics perception of all Greeks. Kind of disappointing that their chapters only want to benefit from the positive parts of Greek life and not accept any of the responsibility.
