This is the problem with rape culture – it doesn’t matter that she is dressed to the 9’s in a sexy dress and is flirting. She is portraying a drunk person. If she was truly drunk and they had taken her home, she is not in a state to consent and it’s still rape. I live in LA and Hollywood Blvd is a disgusting mess and I agree that it should never be used as a sample *but* this scares me because this area is also home to many fun nightclubs and venues where it’s totally normal for women to be wearing dresses and heels. It’s scary because some of them will drunkenly wander outside of the venue to call someone or meet someone outside the club, get into a cab… and look who is ready to take advantage. The video, in my opinion, isn’t saying “look, all men are rapists” but is saying that even in broad daylight, men that see a clearly out of control person don’t respect them as humans but rather regard them as objects (not saying this also can’t happen to men, just in this specific video).
And as someone said above, it’s sad to see no one intervene. Good video to highlight that bystander behavior is real and that you can help stop rape culture by calling it out – or the cops, if you don’t want to get involved personally.
YES. THIS. I had an okay fall formal recruitment experience but my confidence was bruised when I had great conversations with a lot of chapters yet was dropped by many as well. Like you, I was on the other side of recruitment my senior year and it broke my heart when I would find girls who had found little nooks to hide in, tears blurring their schedules, on the phone with their parents. I had a parent angrily call the recruitment hotline because her daughter was dropped from everyone and didn’t even want to be in college anymore. While that sounds dramatic to people not in Greek life, rejection was this girls first memory of what should be an amazing four-year experience. I calmed down the mother by telling her how we have continuous open bidding and that many girls re-rush, but I knew that I was protecting a system that encourages girls to be judged in three minutes. Yes, first impressions matter, but what kind of system are we when we judge almost entirely on looks and “she was a cheerleader” on day one?
I would personally go a bit further and say it’s almost sexist because we as sororities are so regulated and overseen, where the men get to recruit all year long. At least at our school, you as a PNM could choose what fraternities to go after the first day and they didn’t open the door chanting with matching outfits. They would play baseball, watch a movie, or do NORMAL things real friends do together. For bid day, the guys would be flat-out told what fraternities offered them bids, rather than ranking them and finding out when they tear open an envelope. To me, it says that the campus and overall national organizations trust men to make their own decisions, but that we as women must have a certain budget, schedule, and oversight to select our friends. With college getting more expensive and less of a guarantee for employment anyway, the space for fraternities and sororities needs to be clearly defined. I think recruitment for women comes off cliquey and that if it doesn’t change, long-term the women our chapters will recruit are less of the women they were founded to serve.
I appreciate your response to his article, but I disagree that women are “better” at HR/education and that men are “better” at STEM. I think that there is little representation of women in science, political, and math fields so who do you look up to? Same with men for education, nursing, and even the stigma of being a stay at home dad.
Sweetie, at least you found out how people feel with those comments. It was really for your own good. Her video may be a joke but I remember yours was not. Unless you were trying to be funny, in which case, bless your heart.
So sounds like the best thing about you having a boyfriend is that you have someone to cover up how pathetic you are on your own. Seriously, this whole list makes you sound like a child and half the list makes it sound like you’d really date about anyone
Coming back to respond to all negative comments about you just further proves my point that you are seeking attention. If you really didn’t care, you wouldn’t be trolling on here. Pretty sure when I watched the video I saw your fishhook.
While the death threats are not cool, Tri-Delt did the right thing by dropping this girl from their chapter. This girl is an embarrassment. What baggage to have a member that is enough of a loser to run to YouTube to make vlogs about her sad little life. If these chapters were so fake in their recruitment, then what does it say when you join? And then even more when you were cut. While you’re gasping for attention, get the fishhook out of your face too Shelby.

Still, one of the better articles on this site!
That’s strange. I see people having fun tailgating.

I would rather see photos like last week than a boring 7 minute video. Step it up, intern.

So more or less, you want Chuck Bass. The perfect amount of being an asshole.
Do it the other way around and you won’t have to spend so much time pretending to be attractive.
So it sounds like you are saying you are poor right now?
