I guarantee that Butler would have thought twice about his self indulgent hunger strike if he had to deal with Medicaid instead of whatever high end health insurance he has because his father makes 8.4 million dollars a year.
Thinking of a sorority girl as a prize that can be won is a very pervasive way of thinking among non Greeks. There are tons of white knights at bars and around campus looking to “save the princess from the clutches of the evil frat boys” like they’re the hero in a comic book or fairytale. Behind the outer layer of fuckboy some of us have, most Greeks guys realize that sorority girls would prefer to be treated like a normal person instead of a trophy idol.
Maybe it’s the title that is tripping people up, I can’t be sure. What I do know is A. the article isn’t mocking cultural appropriation and B. It’s not supporting racism. It seems like the article is meant to satirize the outrageous lengths some non-greeks go to to try and portray every theme as racist or culturally insensitive, no matter how seemingly innocuous that theme may be.
People always complain that the TSM staff doesn’t know what satire is, then Hot Piece writes a good satirical article and people complain that it’s “not funny and done in poor taste”. You can’t have it both ways.
I’m guessing the financial aid thing is a vague reference to what happened at Florida A&M, which was a. not fraternity related but still definitely hazing and b. it was worse than anything i’ve ever heard of from a “traditional organization”
“Every one of our parents does considerable emotional damage, and from what I’ve heard, it just might be the best part of being a parent. Now, if some guy ever does put a ring on your finger and you’re lucky enough to pop out a youngster, I’m sure you’ll understand. But for now, believe me when I tell you I wouldn’t care if this was the first time you ever met your daddy. Because, in reality… well, he could have done a much, much worse job” Dr. Cox, My Old Man, S1 E19
“Maybe he wouldn’t have done the hunger strike… without access to his wealthcare”
You just proved my point for me.
Of course he wouldn’t have gone on a hunger strike without “wealthcare” because his access to quality healthcare greatly minimizes the risk he faces.
