I think the comments about speaking up are extremely important. Too many people put aside their feelings for their significant other and do everything the other person wants without thinking about themselves. Relationships are all about give and take and that balance is necessary for healthy interaction.

  • meeshell36 9 years ago on Leaving Small Town, USA, Was The Best Decision I Ever Made

I’m happy to hear that you had a good experience moving to a larger city. I grew up living in the middle of nowhere and I chose to go to college in one of the smallest towns I could find. I personally like the small environment, but I find myself wondering what it would be like if I chose a college in a bigger city. Your experience makes me excited to explore the world and spend some time in big cities. Thank you for sharing!

  • meeshell36 9 years ago on A Message To Men Everywhere: Let Us Pay

I think this article is completely accurate. The old “rules” don’t necessarily apply anymore, but that doesn’t mean a nice gesture is not appreciated. I have had the same boyfriend for over four years, and he has definitely paid for his fair share of dinners. After a long period of time, I feel that he doesn’t need to pay for my dinner every time we go out to eat. Why should the man continuously empty his wallet to seem like a masculine man?
    Thanks for writing this article!

  • meeshell36 9 years ago on Why Yik Yak Is Probably The Worst Thing To Ever Happen To College Campuses

Yik Yak on my campus is very similar to yours. I don’t understand how people think it’s ok to use an anonymous app to bash other people. Anonymous cyberbullying is still cyberbullying. There are guidelines to Yik Yak, but no one follows them and it is to duty of other users to down vote or report inappropriate posts. That doesn’t seem right to me. I completely agree with you that this app is bad news and I truly hope it can be changed for the good soon.

  • meeshell36 10 years ago on 5 Reasons You HAVE To Make Friends With Girls In Other Sororities

I wish I had better relationships with the other sorority members on my campus. I feel that our Panhellenic spirit is not very strong and I know we all have our stereotypes and ideas about the other sororities. The idea of having friends in other chapters is almost taboo and that really is a shame. I’m from a very small school, so you would expect the Greek life to be close, but we are probably as far away from each other as we possibly could be. I hope that change will come and we can all have a better relationship, but only time will tell.
Thanks for sharing, this is a nice post!!

  • meeshell36 10 years ago on Going To College Turned Me Into A Different Person, And That's Okay

I can definitely relate to this! I know I have changed so much from high school and middle school, but I feel that it is in the best way possible. I used to be shy and to myself, but since being at school and joining a sorority I have opened myself up and allowed me to be who I thought I always was. College is a great opportunity to change your opinion of yourself and the change is usually a good change! Thanks for sharing!

  • meeshell36 10 years ago on Why Getting Called A Bitch Is Actually A Good Thing

I feel that a lot of the time the word “bitch” is used with a negative connotation, but you redefine the word based on how it is used in everyday life. The word has such a variety of meanings when using it for different people, which is somewhat humorous. Your post is inspiring to be in charge of your own life, and if someone calls you a bitch along the way, take it as a compliment. However, I also think that it doesn’t give you the right to be nasty to people, but be yourself and fight for what you want!

  • meeshell36 10 years ago on Why Sororities Are Just Like Sports Teams

You explain a very interesting comparison in this post! I’ve never thought of sororities being similar to sports teams, but after reading your article, it all seems to fit! It’s interesting because many people on campuses don’t have much respect for the athletes or Greek life. Thanks for sharing this comparison!

  • meeshell36 10 years ago on Your Guide For Handling Jealousy Like A Grown-Up

This is a great article. I have a boyfriend of four years and I sometimes feel jealous, but I can’t freak out at my boyfriend. Jealousy is a natural feeling and it’s ok to feel that way, but you are correct in saying that it needs to be dealt with in an adult like manner. Thanks for sharing this post!

  • meeshell36 10 years ago on The Real Reason You Should Join A Sorority

This post makes me so happy! I absolutely love my sorority and I feel that sometimes people join for the wrong reasons. When I joined it was because of the amaXing women in my chapter. I have some of the greatest friends and the best memories from my sorority, but it has also forced me to grow up. I feel that being a part of Greek life is much more than what other people think, and I wouldn’t have known that if I hadn’t joined. We are pushing forward in our philanthropic pursuits and we have the highest GPA on campus. I agree that there are way too many reasons to join!!

I’m currently in the process of doing Big/Little choosing at my school and I have a few girls in mind. I love this letter because I know I will always take care of my Little. The role of Big is so important and I can’t wait to be that role model for someone.

    Thank you for posting this!

  • meeshell36 10 years ago on One Girl's Heartbreaking Tale Of Why She Dropped Recruitment -- And Why It Needs To Change

This post makes me so sad!! I am a sister of Alpha Xi Delta at Ohio Northern University and I am so happy to be in my sorority. I’m not sure if it’s because I go to such a small school and we only had 109 girls sign up for recruitment this year (which is a lot for my school), but I believe we gave bids to 90 women. This article is upsetting because we value helping every girl find her home. It’s shocking that so many girls got cut from houses. I understand your feelings, although I can only imagine how being in your situation feels. We just finished our recruitment period and it was so different being on the sister side, but I felt that we were being too judgmental when I simply wanted girls that would push our sorority forward. I am sorry that your Greek life experience was not a good one, but I truly hope you found your home away from home, even if it wasn’t as a member of a sorority!
