As a woman of color and a Delta legacy, I can say that a lot of what you said consisted of generalizations. Hefty ones at that. The idea of who can be seen with who and this that and the other are STEREOTYPES that most in the D9 sorority world try to shake. Within the NPHC there is still the common goal of Greek unity. That’s not to say some D9 sorority members don’t act ridiculous and fall into that stupidity, but it is most definitely frowned upon in the Nat’l Pan-hellenic world, and IS far off NPHC sorority ideals. The problem people have with this show is its heinous portrayal of sorority women in general, 4 ill-behaved women DO NOT represent an entire counsel.
As I mentioned, this has literally nothing to do with liberals versus conservatives or one side against the other. Comments like that add nothing to the conversation. Absolutely nothing.
Things like this really screw it up for women that have ACTUALLY been raped. That’s the saddest part. This has nothing to do with liberal or conservative or feminists vs non-feminists, but Rolling Stone totally botching the journalistic process and essentially failing to find any proof of these allegations before publishing an article. It disgusts me, because there really are issues with how these things are handled on college campuses (as far as how they’re reported and who deals with them and when). The story was much too general and almost too stereotypically horrific, so the fact that this is beginning to look fabricated doesn’t surprise me. I do wonder though if some of the details were changed for anonymity purposes. All of that aside, crap like this sure doesn’t help the cause.
I absolutely LOVED this article. To each his own opinion and choice, but I feel as if everyone gets way too caught up in the dreamy side of relationships these days instead of thinking about them realistically. This article hit the nail on the head.
I love this article beyond reason. As someone who dealt with this hell for seven years and still struggles with body acceptance, it’s always good to see someone shining light on this all too prevalent issue among young women and talking about it so openly. Loved it. Great article.
I agree that no one should be told they are unattractive. Ever. No matter what. But the line about boys wanting something to hold on doesn’t mean that thinner women aren’t attractive either. If any issue could be raised with the song it’s really that it’s more one-sided,meant to be empowering for curvier women and leaves thinner women out. She doesn’t however, actually bash skinny women.
It never has been. But as mentioned before, there are ENTIRE societal institutions built upon the idea that all women must be considered thin, even in today’s more prgroessive world it’s still not ideal to be curvy. Yes insulting someone because they are naturally thin is absolutely unacceptable and offensive, but it is NOT nor will it ever be the same as being picked on for being bigger (whether it be for having a larger body frame or being overweight), it is NOT the same. There is NO war on skinny women. At the end of the day, western society still embraces the concept of thinness equating to beauty. Someone telling you that you need to eat a cheese burger just doesn’t match up to someone telling you how much of a failure you are because you have fuller hips and thighs. Think about the entire spectrum of an issue, not just your perspective.
This has to be a joke…
Cause that’s not dangerous or anything.

Has zero to do with Liberalism versus Conservatism.
Ultimate TSM. Love this.

*There never has been a “war”. Sorry for the typo.
