ShutUpAndRead is a mass communications major from a small school in South Carolina that you've probably never heard of. She enjoys reading, long walks on the beach, and judging the Twitterverse. When she's not busy watching videos of sloths or babies dancing to pop music, she can be found pretending to be a princess and working diligently on her MRS degree.
My biological big sister actually looks just like me, has had two kids, is 26 and is still as tiny as I am, so I’m not terribly worried about it.
I think the problem isn’t that they’re standing up for themselves, it’s more that they’re standing up for themselves by bashing other body types. At the end of “Anaconda”, Nicki Minaj literally has a whole part where she says “f*ck skinny bitches, I’ve got a fat ass”. How is that positive at all? I’m all for self-confidence, but not at the expense of another person.
Also, I did say that 60% of rapes go unreported, right?
And as for crying wolf, I would LOVE to see you look a survivor of sexual assault in the eye and tell them that they’re “crying wolf”. In any case, the main point of this article was that schools AREN’T doing enough. They’re trying to cover up rather than FIX the problem. THAT is why we have rapists being given a 4 page paper rather than being removed from the university. That is why we have girls that face their rapists every day.
If you’re going to pretend to be intelligent, you should really be better at it.
But RAINN, where I got the majority of my statistics, is a legitimate source. But I mean if you don’t want to pay attention to real statistics that are recognized nationally, feel free to keep being wrong.
Careful! It can be REALLY hard adjusting at first, but if you’re will to be patient and work through it, it could be one of the best things you ever do for yourself! My boyfriend and I have had our challenges, but we work through them and at the end of the day this is the happiest I’ve ever been.
There’s a lot of work to be done, definitely. But the new legislative measures are going to go a long way to help women, especially on college campuses. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with the “It’s On Us” campaign President Obama has started.
You’re absolutely right. Somehow, a stigma has been applied to survivors of sexual assault, and it’s not right. I’ve been called a slut, a whore, told that I was asking for it. People make it seem like it’s not okay to talk about what happened to us. That’s why it’s time for us to stand up and start the conversation ourselves.
The first time he walked in on me using the bathroom, I almost cried. It took some adjustment.
Well, that’s why you go out! I have girls’ nights with my friends and he still goes out drinking with his friends. Plus, we have different work schedules, so I actually have a lot of alone time.
Always put at least a long shirt on. Covers what needs to be covered, and if it’s not yours, there’s nothing for his/your friends to identify.
Sleep face down so all he gets is the back of your head. Plausible deniability all the way.
Pro tip: spray on sealants might seem easier and like an awesome idea. Don’t fall for them, they chip SUPER easy. Take the time to Mod Podge it. You’ll thank yourself later.
Living proof that there is such a thing as “too big”
This was absolutely incredible. Wow.
That’s actually what I called it first!
I guess things are just different at my school, then. I go to a small school, and the majority of our frat guys are super sweet and don’t really have that sense of entitlement you’re talking about.
That article was also edited after the original posting. Seeing as this was the last article posted before a long weekend, there’s been no room for revision.
But I still think you’re all spending too much time on the article and not enough time on the introspective reflection required to fix the kinds of problems that cause incidents like this.
Which is a women’s school.
